Environmental Statement

As a resident of Hong Kong for over 11 years, Pamela has observed the generous, but wasteful practice of sharing gifts and hampers over Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, Christmas and other events. While generally well-intended, the lack of responsible and thoughtful gifts is disappointing, but more importantly, contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, pollution and environmental degradation.

Many gift baskets include mass produced, boring and cheap products in oversized packaging, wrapped up in plastic, cellophane or ‘reusable’ baskets that end up in our landfills. The mere act of gift giving is often more important than what and how those gifts are given and responsibly managed after use.

This has to change. The joy of giving and receiving should be celebrated and encouraged, hassle-free and fun! At Hinton Handcrafted Gifts, we carefully select products and packaging to minimize environmental impact. Our gifts aim to be plastic-free, with biodegradable or recyclable packaging that is also made from recycled materials.

In addition to reducing waste, our products support local businesses and communities that care about their impact on the earth by including their sustainably made products. This helps reduce the carbon footprint of transportation and supports the local economy. Because our gifts and stationery is entirely made to order, we only source what we need, further minimizing unnecessary waste.
